Most days I rush out of the house at 7 am to get my kids to school and I don’t put a whole lot of time or effort into what I’m wearing. In fact, wearing workout clothes is my go-to outfit (because, let’s be honest, they’re the closest thing to a publicly acceptable form of adult pajamas). Although I have a lot of options in my closet it’s become second nature to throw on my workout clothes and change into a different outfit later.
As second nature as it is for me to put on my workout clothes, there’s another outfit that God wants me to wear all day, everyday, without changing out of. This is what the Bible calls, “the whole armor of God” in Ephesians 6:11-18. This is full attire and weaponry that God equips us with, from head to toe, so that we can live out our purpose as mighty women of God! The six pieces of armor a mighty woman of God wears are:
Belt Of Truth
This is our central piece of armor because it holds all of the other pieces of armor in their proper place. This symbolizes the Word of God and the truth that we use to keep everything else in our lives aligned with. Without the foundation of truth our lives would unravel.
Breastplate Of Righteousness
This crucial piece of armor defends our heart and central organs from attack. When we wear the righteousness of Christ we are protected, in Him, against any life-threatening attack from the enemy. The righteousness of Christ on us guards are heart, the wellspring of life.
Shoes Of Peace
These special shoes had spikes on the bottom so a soldier could hold his ground. Likewise, as mighty women of God, we wear the shoes of peace so we can dig in, stand our ground, and hold our peace when the chaos and storms of life try to knock us down.
Shield Of Faith
This large shield was covered with leather and lubricated daily so the arrows from the enemy would slide right off it. As we carry our shield of faith we are able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one so they do not penetrate and hit us. Our faith protects and guards us.
Helmet Of Salvation
This custom helmet protected the soldier from receiving a mortal wound to the head. When our helmet of salvation is firmly in place, we are protected against the mental assaults, discouragement, and lies the enemy wants to fill our mind with.
Sword Of The Spirit
This sword was intended for close hand-to-hand combat to pierce the enemy. When we wield the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, we have a special word regarding our situation, from the Holy Spirit, quickened within us to use to diffuse the enemy’s attack.
Everything we need to successfully defeat our enemy or difficult circumstances is at our disposal. When we put on the whole armor of God each and everyday we are empowered to be the mighty women of God He created us to be. With it, we do not lack anything we need for victory and success in our lives! Whatever you choose to wear, be sure your armor is always on.
