When God answers NO

I always worship before I write. It’s just a thing that I do to align my heart with God’s heart and to really sit down and listen to what He has to say. As I was praying this morning I asked God to show me what to write and how to articulate my words.  I heard Him clearly saying: “Tell them that I know the reasons for My ‘no’”. That in itself hit everything out of my sails.

Just like you, I am also on a journey of seeking that which God has instore for me, and pursuing the question of what is my purpose and destiny. And just like you, I hear God’s “No” on a daily basis. I know how frustrating it can be. I will find myself sitting on my kitchen floor with my back against the wall (a physical representation of how I actually feel), and crying! And with my hands in my head I would ask God: “Where is my door? Where is the door that You will open for ME this time?  Have You forgotten about me?” and within seconds God answers: “Jacolette, will you trust Me when the circumstances do not make sense? When it doesn’t happen LIKE and WHEN you thought? When my answer is NO?”

You see, it’s actually not about God and His answer, it’s about us, our obedience and TRUST in Him. Hmm, “trust”…It’s a big deal in today’s society. God confronted me with the idea once again: “How can you trust Something that you can’t see, if that which you can see broke all of it?” and that’s where the journey began. Trust is not something you grasp, it is something you walk out, every single day. We need to learn to trust God, even though man broke all of it.

You cannot place your trust in man, who are fickle and broken themselves. If you have to shrink back to the thoughts and ideals of other people, you will never reach your destiny! You will never inherit the land God has for you.

In the book of Revelations, it is written that only God can open and close doors that no one else can open or close [Rev 3:8]. If He closes a door, you should start rejoicing! He was protecting you from things you did not even see! We serve an infinite God who knows every single intention and motive of a person. Every single thought and feeling. He knows where the traps are, and how circumstances will play out in the end. He knows exactly where certain paths would lead. He loves you too much for you to destroy yourself by making wrong decisions, decisions that seemed to be right in your eyes. He goes before you to make your path straight. Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to PROSPER you and not to HARM you. To give you HOPE and a FUTURE.” I am so glad when God closes a door on my behalf! I simply cannot rely on my own thoughts and emotions when it comes to destiny and purpose. I have a Higher Authority’s power that I need to tap into for me to receive that which He has for me. Colossians 3:2 – “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”. That requires a certain intentional action…TRUST.

It is another story to sit and wait on God, especially in a society where everything is so fast-paced and “progressive”. Yet, I can hear Him say: “Be still and know that I am God.” [Psalm 46:10]. You feel like you are falling behind, but actually you are right on track! You don’t have to conform to society’s expectations of where you are supposed to be at a certain age. You have a unique purpose that you need to fulfil on this earth and sometimes that requires a story that’s different to the “status quo”.

You see, I don’t want 90% of that which God has for me, I want all of it! I want the 100%. And if that means I must sit down, wait, trust and pray, I will do that for as long as God requires that of me. I will accept every “No” from God along the path so that I can divinely step into His “Yes.” If God is not done working, I am not done waiting!

Lean into God and trust our process!
