Who do YOU say I am?

“Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it, and I don't deserve it, still, You give Yourself away.”

Tonight while I was contemplating about God, grace, love and just the fullness of who He is; thinking of all the lyrics in the songs we listen to, all testimonies of different people and all the words I have heard over the years, the Holy Spirit inspired the following question in my mind: “Who do YOU say that I am?”

You see, it is easy to identify God with the words and experiences of other people, but God wants to give you your own revelation of who He is. His greatest desire is to reveal His heart to you, to share His secrets with you and to invite and receive you into the secret place.

Once we enter into this intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father, we will begin to step into His promises and thoughts over our lives and our hearts. The Father’s plans FOR us, and ABOUT us are always good. His plans and purposes are sovereign and exalted above anything and everything we can think of or perceive. But we cannot receive these promises, plans, and purposes if our only knowledge regarding the Father and His heart are limited to the ones we heard in conversations or listened to in songs. You need to experience Him.

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.” – 1 Corinthians 2:9

Jesus is constantly pursuing and chasing us down. He is waiting for us to ask for a revelation of who He is. He does not hide Himself from us. He is waiting for us to discover Him, to meet with Him and to love on Him.

So, “Who do YOU say that I am?”

This is the same question that Jesus asked Peter in Matthew 16:15-17. He did not ask Peter what society says about Him, what the pastor says about Him or what his family says about Him. Jesus wanted to know what Peter’s thoughts were. Jesus wanted to know what Peter’s revelation of Him was.

In the same way, Jesus wants to investigate our hearts and ask us this same question.

I want to encourage you to pursue Jesus. Seek Him and I promise you that you will find Him. Discover who He is and who He wants to be within your life. Allow Him to reveal His reckless love to you in a way that is evident to who you are.
